The Culture

The best thing about working at Lees-McRae College is:

The students and faculty in our program are passionate about the outdoors, hardworking, open-minded, and caring.

When we’re not working, we’re:

Playing outside as much as possible but our favorite activities are cycling, skiing, snowboarding, and climbing

What we’re reading:

Outdoor textbooks or travel books planning our next expedition

What we’re listening to:

The students are into alt rock so we’re listening to more of that lately when we all travel together.

If they made a movie about our workplace, it would be called:

Adventures galore!

Inclusion in the outdoors matters because:

Students seeking careers in the outdoor industry need to be educated and empowered to make positive differences and changes in support of underrepresented populations.

Five years down the line, it’s our hope that:

Our hope is that we continue to learn from the current scholarship and rhetoric surrounding diversity and inclusion and seek out intentional faculty, guest speakers, textbooks, and programs that highlight and support underrepresented populations.  We live in an outdoor mountain town with very little diversity and educating our students on the importance of inclusion in the outdoors is imperative!
